The Canaveral Barge Canal cuts thru Merritt Island, Florida to connect the [[Banana River]] and [[Indian River]] in [[:Category:Brevard County|Brevard County]]. Oceangoing vessels may access the Banana River through the Canaveral Locks, then head westward in the Canaveral Barge Channel, to enter the Canaveral Barge Canal at Merritt Island, and exit onto the Indian River Intracoastal Waterway.

Once through the locks, ships carrying spacecraft head north on the Banana River to Kennedy Space Center. Other vessels head westward across the Banana River using the Canaveral Barge Channel, then transverse Merritt Island via the Canaveral Barge Canal, which exits into the Indian River and the Intracoastal Waterway.
