Canaveral Barge Canal Bridge, Merritt Island

The Canaveral Barge Canal cuts thru Merritt Island, Florida to connect the Banana River and Indian River in Brevard County.

Oceangoing vessels may request an opening of the triple-leaf drawspan Canaveral Locks Bridge to access the Banana River through the Canaveral Locks. Once through the locks, ships carrying spacecraft head north on the Banana River to Kennedy Space Center. Other vessels head westward across the Banana River using the Canaveral Barge Channel, then transverse Merritt Island via the Canaveral Barge Canal, which exits into the Indian River and the Intracoastal Waterway.
