The Indian River Lagoon National Estuary provides spawning, nursery, and foraging habitat for some 65 fish species[1], including spotted seatrout, redfish (red drum), Snook, tarpon, mullet, sheepshead, pompano, and the endangered smalltooth sawfish.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) monitors and researches Florida's fish stock, determines fishery catch limits and enforces Florida's regulations on the water. Indian River Lagoon Species Inventory, sponsored by Smithsonian Marine Station Fort Pierce and the IRL Council, is a searchable scientific database that provides profiles for most Florida fish species.[3]
